The Pearl of the Antilles is the nickname for the Republic of Haiti. Haiti is also known as the Pearl of the Caribbean
Since Christopher Columbus laid eyes on Haiti back in December 1492, it wasn't long before Haiti became known as the Pearl of the Antilles.
Haiti was once the richest colony in the west indies.
The French, the Spanish and the English, they all wanted the "Pearl of the Antilles", Haiti, the richest colony in the West Indies and probably the richest colony in the history of the world. (beholders.org)
So... Whenever you hear the terms: Pearl of the Antilles or Pearl of the Carribean, remember, It is Haiti they are talking about!
