Haiti Travel Guide Haiti Travel Warning

Haiti is the only country in the Caribbean with a travel warming... So you would think Haiti is the MOST dangerous Right?

Wrong... Why is that?

I was looking at the U.S. State Department's web site and notice that Haiti is the only Caribbean country in the list of travel warnings. So I did a little research on other countries in the Caribbean, and some major tourist destination cities in the USA to see if they were... you know... SAFE!

Here's what I found out:

Is Jamaica Safe?

"Make no mistake, you can get robbed, raped or killed here, the same as everywhere else. It comes down to you being smart. If you're not street smart, then hang with someone who is and avoid known garrisons which will almost certainly increases your chances of receiving bodily harm or financial loss." (answers.yahoo.com)

Is the Dominican Republic Safe?

"Petty crimes have long been considered common in the Dominican Republic, but violent crimes against foreigners are becoming increasingly common. In fact, buses and taxis are known for allowing criminals to rob tourists while in their small, enclosed spaces." (Italian travel site)

Is New York City Safe?

"Below Delancey on the east side isn't really where I'd want to walk around at night... East Harlem is a quite scary... worst neighborhoods are the Bronx and Harlem... I used to live in the Bronx and got attacked twice... Brooklyn is the 2nd most dangerous..." (StreetAdvisor.com)

Is Haiti Safe?

I guess what I am trying to say is...

The dangers present in the Haiti are similar to those of many major U.S. cities. Criminals can be dangerous -- many have weapons and are likely to use them if they meet resistance. Visitors walking the streets should always be aware of their surroundings. Be wary of strangers, especially those who seek you out at celebrations or nightspots. Travel with a partner or in a group if possible.

Ok... I copied the last paragraph off of the U.S. State Department's web site about another country in the Caribbean.

I wonder why they didn't just say that about Haiti!

So... Here, my friend, is your Haiti Travel Warming.
