Discover Haiti The Pearl of The Caribbean
The pearl of the Caribbean is a term used to refer to Republic of Haiti. An older term, with the same meaning, is pearl of the Antilles.
Explanation (the short version)
Before the arrival of Columbus in 1492, "Antilles" was the old term used to refer to the Caribbean islands and since then, Haiti was crowned "The pearl of the Antilles."
After the arrival of Columbus, the Antilles became known as the West Indies (he thought he was in India). Later, the Antilles became known as the Caribbean (From Carib or Caribe, a tribe of Amerindians, now nearly extinct, who lived in the West Indies)
So if you were to call Haiti The pearl of the Antilles, the pearl of the West Indies, of the pearl of the Caribbean, you would be correct.
