My friend, it is very simple, when your flight is cancelled, you call the airline and demand a full refund.
they have no choice but to comply.
You paid for a service that you did not get. I booked 5 flights on Spirit to and from Haiti for friends and relatives, I had no problem getting every penny back.

I just call to get a refund for my cancelled flight to Haiti and they offered me a future flight credit for $181.53
Future flight credit only means they are keeping your money and allowing you to use it at a later date
